Saros partnered with a global pharmaceutical leader to manage a complex Information Systems (IS) transition and ensure long-term operational excellence.
The challenge: ownership of SAP ECC and related systems needed to move from the Ireland division to the global IS team. This required harmonising processes across divisions, safeguarding compliance, and enhancing service delivery. At the same time, the company was preparing for a major global integration — upgrading multiple SAP ECC systems into a single SAP S/4HANA environment.
Saros was brought in to provide end-to-end programme management, governance, and technical expertise, ensuring a smooth transition with no disruption to manufacturing operations.
The Challenges
- Complex system ownership transfer across global divisions
- Need for harmonisation of processes, governance, and service delivery
- Knowledge transfer to build IS team expertise and confidence
- Maintaining compliance and audit readiness during transition
- Preparing for global standardisation through SAP S/4HANA integration
The Solution
- Saros Consulting managed the IS transition through a structured, end-to-end approach:
- Access & Security Management – ensuring robust controls and data protection
- Documentation Transfer – migrating essential operational materials to the global IS team
- Governance & Compliance – embedding effective GRC frameworks
- System Lifecycle Management – ensuring long-term effectiveness of SAP systems
- Audit Support – guiding internal and external compliance checks
- Service Delivery Management – maintaining high-quality service levels
- Change & Quality Control – ensuring smooth adjustments without disrupting production
In parallel, Saros spearheaded the Global Integration Project, consolidating SAP ECC systems into SAP S/4HANA with objectives to:
- Leverage data as a strategic asset
- Increase organisational flexibility
- Reduce complexity in operations and IT systems
- Standardise processes across supply chain and finance
The Results
The transition and integration delivered:
- Enhanced expertise within the IS team through training and knowledge transfer
- Streamlined standard operating procedures across divisions
- Stronger governance and a solid IS support structure
- A unified SAP system supporting global data governance
- Standardisation of supply chain and finance processes
- Continuous manufacturing production with no disruption during the cutover
Why It Matters
For the client, this transition was not just a technical upgrade; it was a strategic enabler. By unifying information systems globally and embedding governance, the company strengthened resilience, improved compliance, and created a scalable IT foundation for future growth.
